Truman Doctrine

On March 12, 1947 Us president harry Truman outlined a policy of containment before a joint section of congress. The basic thrust of this doctrine was that; 'it must be the policy of the United States to support free peoples who are resisting attempted subjugation by armed minority or by outside pressure' this doctrine was adopted by US in order to prevent communist takeover of government in Greece and turkey especially when Britain declared that she cannot continue to give military and economic assistance to the Greek government in its civil war against the Greek communist party.
