The level of efficiency for processing a program, which is determined by the application programmer. When the code is optimised on the system, the system uses processing shortcuts to reduce the amount of system resources necessary to produce the same output. The processing shortcuts are then translated by the system into machine code, which allows the programme to run more efficiently.
