(1) Data that is recognised only by the procedure or OPM programme that defines it. Local data is deleted when the procedure returns control to the calling programme or procedure. See also external data.
(2) In COBOL, the data described in a programme excluding all external data items and external file connectors. Items described in the Linkage Section of a programme are handled as internal data.
