Block

(1) A string of data elements recorded, processed, or transmitted as a unit. The elements can be characters, words, or physical records.
(2) In programming languages, a compound statement that coincides with the scope of at least one of the declarations contained within it. A block may also specify storage allocation or segment programmes for other purposes.
(3) A set of rows retrieved from a database server that is transmitted as a single result set to satisfy a cursor FETCH request.
(4) A unit of data storage on a device.
(5) To suspend a programme process.
