In OSI, a parameter that identifies a particular application entity to the programming interface. The programming interface returns the application entity identifier when the customer programme builds an application entity environment. The customer programme then uses the application entity identifier to identify itself to OSI Communications Subsystem on later calls. See also application entity environment.
