Splitting

In OSI, the technique of a single transport connexion using multiple network connexions so that an application entity can use more than one line to send data on an association. Splitting can increase data throughput and resistance to network failure. It might be used, for example, to send a large file more quickly than if a single line were used. Splitting is available only with transport layer class 4.
