A unique superorder of malacostracan Crustacea, noted particularly for the total lack of a carapace or carapace shield. Two orders are recognized, Anas­pidacea and Bathynellacea. The Stygocarididae, at one time considered a distinct order, are now assigned familial rank within the Anaspidacea.
