salt marshes
Typically, transitional areas between land and ocean, where the salinity and level of the water are dependent on the tides. However, there are also inland salt marshes in arid areas where the water has a high salt level due to evaporation. Salt water marshes are dominated by salt tolerant (halophytic) vegetation. They are environmentally delicate areas, extremely vulnerable to pollution.
