porphyroclastic structure

A structure in crystalline rocks characterized by an aggregate of small grains of quartz and feldspar occupying the interstices between, or forming borders on the edges of, 2059 much larger, rounded grains of the same minerals. Long considered a product of cataclasis, the structure may actually be the result of plastic deformation and dynamic recrystallization (Harte, 1977).
