Usually fibrosis of the lungs that develops owing to (prolonged) inhalation of inorganic or organic dusts.
Note: Cause-specific types of pneumoconiosis are:
- anthracosis: from coal dust.
- asbestosis: from asbestos dust.
- byssinosis: from cotton dust.
- siderosis: from iron dust.
- silicosis: from silica dust.
- stannosis: from tin dust.
