isotope
One of two or more atoms with the same number of protons, but different number of neutrons, in their nuclei. Example: 12C, 13C, and 14C are isotopes of the same element. Isotopes have very nearly the same chemical properties, but often different physical properties (12C and 13C are stable, while 14C is radioactive).
