en-soi
According to the existentialist philosopher Jean-Paul Sartre, the world is divided between two sorts of beings: beings-in-themselves (en-soi)and beings-for-themselves pour-soi). Beings-in-themselves are inanimate things like rocks, whereas
beings-for-themselves are beings that exhibit feeling and agency.
