cylindrical mill

A revolving cylinder, usually lined with silex, nearly half filled with glacial or waterworn flints, used for fine grinding of certain ores, preliminary to further treatment. The material to be ground, mixed with water, is fed through a trunnion at one end and passes out the opposite trunnion as a slime. This is an exceptionally long mill with a relatively small diameter.
