A professional who directs construction, operation, and maintenance of telephone or telegraph communication systems. Responsibilities include:

  • Studies and accepts or rejects recommendations for improvement or additions to communication facilities.
  • Investigates availability and approves cost estimates of new equipment requested.
  • Approves or rejects equipment rental and electric-power contracts.
  • Supervises personnel and performs other administrative duties to ensure efficient operation.
  • May direct installation and operation of radio communications systems.
