It covers all unit operations that are not considered to be mechanical or biological, for example, chemical coagulation, flocculation and precipitation, break-point chlorination, stripping, mixed-media filtration, micro-screening, selective ion exchange, activated carbon adsorption, reverse osmosis, ultrafiltration and electroflotation.
