A word which qualifies or modifies the meaning of a noun; as in a 'blue hat' or a 'quick fox'. They can be used to complement the verbs 'to be' or 'to seem' ('Sue seems unhappy today'). Adjectives can also be formed from nouns or verbs by the addition of a suffix such as '-able' (lovable), '-ful' (heedful), '-ic' (heroic), '-ish' (foolish), '-ive' (combative), '-ous' (famous), or '-y' (needy).
