acid sulfate soil
A soil with a pH value of less than 4.0 when air-dried; contains a high amount of sulfate and yellow jarosite mottles. Abnormal growth of plants in this soil is due to (i) toxicity from aluminum, iron, and hydrogen sulfide; and (ii) phosphorus deficiency.
