The Vall del Madriu is located to the southeast of the principality and it includes the districts of Escaldes-Engordany, Encamp, Sant Julia de Loria and Andorra la Vella. Its diversity of the landscape, the dry stones walls and borders, the cottages, the herds of livestock and continuing mark of human influence provides an uninterrupted and unaltered perspective on significant period of human history.
UNESCO declared the site as the valley of the world heritage in 2004 as a site of cultural landscape category. If you travel across the valley you will realize that Madriy-Perafita-Claror valley is traditionally restored with some shepherd’s huts, walled garden, livestock pastures and dairies used for milking the sheep and making the cheese.
