(1) The completion of an interrupted two-phase commit process for a unit of work.
(2) A track image copy from the primary volume to the secondary volume of only the tracks that have changed since the volume was last in duplex mode.
Industry:Software
(1) The component of a Content Manager system that manages objects. These objects are referred to by items stored on the library server.
(2) An application, program, or transaction that manages and controls access to shared resources such as memory buffers and data sets. WebSphere MQ, CICS, and IMS are resource managers.
(3) See managed resource.
(4) A subsystem or component that manages resources that can be involved in transactions. Resource managers can be categorised as work managers, data resource managers, and communication resource managers.
(5) The participant in a transaction responsible for controlling access to recoverable resources. In terms of the CICS resource adapters this is presented by an instance of a ConnectionFactory.
(6) In the Tivoli common agent services , the server of a management application that directly interacts with a managed resource. For example, a resource manager instals bundles on the agent and starts and stops a subagent. See also management application.
(7) In an XA-enabled environment, software that manages and provides access to shared resources, such as databases. The DB2 database system is an example of a resource manager.
(8) A function that is responsible for managing a particular resource and that guarantees the consistency of all updates made to recoverable resources within a logical unit of work. The resource that is being managed can be physical (for example, disc or main storage) or logical (for example, a particular type of system service).
(9) A participant, in the execution of a two-phase commit, that has recoverable resources that could have been modified. The resource manager has access to a recovery log so that it can commit or roll back the effects of the logical unit of work to the recoverable resources.
Industry:Software
(1) The component of z/OS that performs XRF processing. Specifically, the availability manager performs I/O prevention during takeover.
(2) In XRF, the programmes that handle communication between active and alternate IMS, DL/I, or SQL/DS XRF systems. See also CICS availability manager.
Industry:Software
(1) The component that manages the multimedia file system.
(2) The provider of services for all the nodes using a single file system. A file system manager processes changes to the state or description of the file system, controls the regions of discs that are allocated to each node, and controls token management and quota management.
Industry:Software
(1) The composite of all operational entities, functions, and resources that form the total business concern and that require an information system.
(2) The aggregate of an organization's data centre complexes. The enterprise is an object that is at the top of the hierarchical model of Tivoli Manager for OS/390 and Tivoli Availability Infrastructure Services.
Industry:Software
(1) The concept of separating the definitions of logical and physical data such that application programmes do not depend on where or how physical units of data are stored; the reduction of application programme modification in data storage structure and access strategy.
(2) In CICS, the ability to request data by a high-level data-management method without concern as to how the data is stored or retrieved.
Industry:Software
(1) The condition allowing users to access and use their applications and data.
(2) The time periods during which a resource is accessible. For example, a contractor might have an availability of 9 AM to 5 PM every weekday, and 9 AM to 3 PM on Saturdays.
(3) The delivery of reliable service during scheduled periods
(4) The total amount of time that a resource can devote to new assignments.
Industry:Software
(1) The condition that exists as long as accidental or intentional destruction, alteration, or loss of data does not occur.
(2) The security service that detects whether there has been unauthorised modification of data, or tampering. The service detects only whether data has been modified; it does not restore data to its original state if it has been modified.
Industry:Software
(1) The condition that occurs when data cannot fit in the designated field.
(2) A condition that occurs when a portion of the result of an operation exceeds the capacity of the intended unit of storage. See also exponent-overflow exception, fixed-point overflow exception.
Industry:Software
(1) The control centre of the Tivoli Monitoring for Transaction Performance software. The management server collects information from and provides services to the deployed management agents. The management server provides the services and user interface needed for centralised management.
(2) The server on which IBM Director Server is installed.
(3) The server and logical partition (LPAR) that are configured to manage Cluster Systems Management nodes.
