Sometimes referred to as “Big Blue” IBM is a multinational corporation headquartered in Armonk, New York. It manufactures computer hardware and software and provides information technology and services.
(1) In SNA LU 6.2 conversations, the name of the programme at the remote logical unit that is to be the other half of the conversation.
(2) The name by which each programme participating in an LU 6.2 conversation is known. Normally, the initiator of a connexion identifies the name of the programme it connects to at the other LU. When used in conjunction with an LU name, a TPN identifies a specific transaction programme in the network.
Industry:Software
(1) A type of discovery where a programme automatically detects the resources that were not previously known.
(2) The discovery of service artefacts in a file system, external registry, or another source.
Industry:Software
(1) In a z/OS environment, a Hierarchical File System (HFS) into which all product data is installed, and from which it is referenced and retrieved during the customization phase.
(2) A directory in which unique files for a package are stored. See also shared resource.

(1) In TCP/IP, that part of the IP address that defines a network. The length of the network ID depends on the type of network class (A, B, or C).
(2) A single character that is placed before a message type to indicate which network is to be used to send the message; for example, S for SWIFT.
(3) The network ID that is assigned by IMS or CICS, or if the connexion type is RRSAF, the RRS unit of recovery ID (URID).
Industry:Software
(1) A subset of a data entry database (DEDB) that is defined as a VSAM entry-sequenced data set (ESDS). Each area in a DEDB consists of a root-addressable part, an independent-overflow part, and a sequential-dependent part. Areas contain the entire logical structure for a set of root segments and their dependent segments.
(2) In a link-state routing protocol, groups of contiguous networks and attached hosts. An autonomous system can be divided into areas, which are connected to each other by routers. Routers within the same area share an identical link-state database. See also autonomous system.
Industry:Software
(1) Hardware, software, or a combination of hardware and software that is capable of accomplishing a specified purpose.
(2) In OSI, a logical grouping of related services.
Industry:Software
(1) In SNA, a network node that receives alerts from nodes that do not have defined focal points. See also primary focal point.
(2) A focal point that provides management services support for those nodes that have not been assigned a focal point. The set of nodes in the sphere of control (SOC) of a default focal point is not defined at either the focal point itself or the SOC nodes. A default focal point exchanges management services capabilities with all network nodes known to it; only those nodes that have not established a relationship with another focal point accept the request.
Industry:Software
(1) A type of input event that is triggered by BTS's internal processing. For example, issuing a RUN command against an activity for the first time in a process instance triggers a DFHINITIAL system event. See also input event, user-defined event.
(2) An event that is generated by the management server or a management agent for changes related to system operation; for example, a server starting or stopping, failure of the ARM engine on an application server, or authentication problems. See also application event.
Industry:Software
(1) In a z/OS environment, the structure that associates all processes that are involved in a unit of work.
(2) In telephony, a customer service person whose job is to handle incoming or outgoing telephone calls.
(3) A function that represents a requester to a server.
(4) In the two-phase commit protocol, a node at the bottom of the transaction programme network hierarchy.
(5) An entity that represents one or more objects by (a) sending notifications regarding events and (b) handling requests from managers to modify or query the objects.
(6) A programme that performs a specific service, such as data collection, without user intervention or on a regular schedule. See also common agent, subagent.
(7) A separate process or thread that carries out all DB2 requests that are made by a particular client application. See also engine dispatchable unit.
(8) In a two-phase commit syncpointing sequence (LU6.2 or multiregion operation (MRO)), a task that receives syncpoint requests from an initiator.
(9) A programme that performs a series of automated tasks according to a set schedule or at the request of a user. An agent consists of three components: the trigger (when it acts), the search (what documents it acts on), and the action (what it does).
Industry:Software
(1) In TCP/IP, the function that allows a system to get an internet address from a remote site rather than from its own host table.
(2) A name server that exists outside a local network.
