Sometimes referred to as “Big Blue” IBM is a multinational corporation headquartered in Armonk, New York. It manufactures computer hardware and software and provides information technology and services.
(1) A test that cheques attachment or controller circuitry (without checking the connected device) by returning the output of the attachment of controller circuitry as input. For example, when irrecoverable communications adapter or machine errors occur, the wrap test can transmit a specific character pattern to or through the modem in a loop and then compare the character pattern received to what was transmitted.
(2) For devices, a diagnostic test that returns the output of a device as input.

(1) In a remote journal network, the process of replicating journal entries that existed in the journal receivers of the source journal before the remote journal was activated.
(2) In XRF, a process in which the active CICS system uses CAVM message services to send a stream of messages describing the current state of all its VTAM terminals, to the message data set and thence to the alternate CICS system.
Industry:Software
(1) In SQL, a number that represents an interval of time.
(2) In Backup, Recovery, and Media Services, the length of time that the designated media is to reside at a location before moving to the next location or returning to the home location. A duration is specified in the move policy.
Industry:Software
An ISDN interface normally used by large sites, providing 30 (E1) or 23 (T1) B-channels of 64 kbits per second and one D-channel for signaling. This is often known as 30B+D or 23B+D. See also basic rate interface.
Industry:Software
(1) A string of characters that uniquely identifies a user to a system. See also user identification.
(2) The name by which a user is seen by other users. This name is entered, along with a password, when the user logs onto the Sametime server.
Industry:Software
(1) Explanatory text in a programme or file that is not translated by the compiler.
(2) An annotation attached to an element or a collection of elements. See also constraint.
Industry:Software
(1) In REXX, the process of calling a set of instructions that must return a result. Function calls can be included in an expression anywhere that a term would be valid.
(2) An expression that transfers the path of execution from the current function to a specified function (the called function). A function call contains the name of the function to which control is transferred and a parenthesized list of values
Industry:Software
(1) A text file that contains commands, which may include commands to do backups, set up build environments, or start execution of a program. Traditionally, makefiles specify the dependencies of target files on source files.
(2) In UNIX, a text file containing a list of an application's parts. The make utility uses makefiles to maintain application parts and dependencies.
Industry:Software
(1) In a system or communications network, a point at which data can either enter or leave.
(2) The point at which one node in a message flow is connected to another node. Terminals can be connected to control the route that a message takes, dependent on the outcome of the operation that is performed on that message by the node.
(3) In data communication, a device, usually equipped with a keyboard and display device, capable of sending and receiving information.
Industry:Software
(1) In SQL, an attribute of columns, literals, host variables, special registers, parameters, and the results of functions and expressions.
(2) An attribute used for defining data as either numeric or character.
(3) In programming languages, a descriptor of a set of values together with a set of permitted operations. A data type determines the kind of value that a variable can assume or that a function can return.
(4) A category that identifies the mathematical qualities and internal representation of data and functions. See also type.
(5) In OSI, a category of data clearly defined using a data declaration method, such as ASN.1 or Pascal.
