(1) An eight-character identifier that is used by the z/OS Workload Manager to associate customer performance goals with a particular DDF thread or procedure. A service class is also used to classify work on parallelism assistants.
(2) A group of work that has the same service goals or performance objectives, resource requirements, or availability requirements. For workload management, a service goal and, optionally, a resource group is assigned to a service class.
(3) An entity that acts as a point of resource control and monitoring for a set of database connexions and activities within a DB2 database. There are two levels of service classes: service superclass and service subclass. See also service subclass, service superclass, workload definition.
Industry:Software
(1) In DB2 Database for Linux, UNIX, and Windows, a SYSCAT or SYSSTAT view on the catalogue table.
(2) One of a set of views automatically created when a database is created. catalogue views contain information about the database and the objects in that database. Examples of information about the database are definitions of database objects and information about the authority that users have on these objects. See also catalogue table.
Industry:Software
(1) One of two machine object classifications. It includes those objects used in programmes that get their definition from an object definition table. programme objects are used as the parameter or values of machine instructions. See also system object.
(2) All or part of a computer programme in a form suitable for loading into virtual storage for execution. programme objects are stored in partitioned data set extended (PDSE) programme libraries and have fewer restrictions than load modules. programme objects are produced by the binder.
Industry:Software
(1) An electronic circuit board that is plugged into a slot in a system to give it added capabilities.
(2) WML document that provides user-interface and navigational settings to display content on mobile devices. See also deck.
Industry:Software
(1) In DB2 for i5/OS SQL, a characteristic of database data definition functions that allows the function to complete or return to its original state if a power interruption or abnormal end occurs.
(2) In commitment control, a characteristic that allows individual changes to objects to appear as a single change.
(3) Pertaining to a transaction's changes to the state of resources: either all occur or none occur. The atomic characteristic maintains data integrity by making sure that some updates are not made while others fail. See also commit.
Industry:Software
(1) One or more address identifiers that can be recognised by a node port (N_port) in addition to its N_port identifier. Alias address identifiers are used to form groups of N_ports so that frames can be addressed to a group rather than to individual N_ports.
(2) A set of alternative volume addresses for a single volume that are used in the parallel access volume (PAV) function.
Industry:Software
(1) An electronic representation of an original document or picture produced by a scanning device or created from software.
(2) A pattern of toned and untoned pels that form a picture.
Industry:Software
(1) In DB2 for i5/OS, to produce, through the actions performed by a precompiler. For example, the precompiler generates host language statements and declarations that are embedded into the input source, and this modified source is then used as input to a compiler.
(2) To produce a computer programme by selection of subsets from skeletal code under the control of parameters.
Industry:Software
(1) One or more computer programmes or software components that provide functionality in direct support of a specific business process or processes.
(2) A Notes database containing both data and programming (in LotusScript) for displaying and manipulating data.
Industry:Software
(1) An element of a DataStage job that describes a database or process. Stages are added to a job and linked together.
(2) A component that represents a data source, a processing step, or the data mart in a DataStage job.
