Company Profile:
The U.S. Bureau of Mines (USBM) was the primary United States Government agency conducting scientific research and disseminating information on the extraction, processing, use, and conservation of mineral resources. Founded on May 16, 1910, through the Organic Act (Public Law 179), USBM's missions ...
The heat of reaction resulting from the complete burning of a substance and expressed variously (as in calories per gram or per mole, or esp. for fuels in British thermal units per pound or per cubic foot).
Industry:Mining
The heat produced by combustion of unit quantity of a solid or liquid fuel when burned, at a constant pressure of 1 atm (0.1 MPa), under conditions such that all the water in the products remains in the form of vapor. Net heat of combustion at constant pressure is expressed as Qp(net).
Industry:Mining
The heat transmitted from (or to) a surface to (or from) the fluid in contact with the surface in a unit of time per unit of surface area per degree temperature difference between the surface and fluid. Measured in units of watts per square meter Kelvin.
Industry:Mining
The heat-transfer ratio hr/k, where h is the heat-transfer coefficient, r is the distance from the point or plane under consideration to the surface, and k is the thermal conductivity. The Biot number is a useful criterion in assessing thermal-shock resistance.
Industry:Mining
The heave of a fault.
Industry:Mining
The heaviest form of hammer drill made in various sizes depending upon the severity of the work to be done. The heaviest type weighs more than 200 lb (91 kg) and is used for holes up to 20 ft (6.1 m) in depth. Must be mounted on a column or bar.
Industry:Mining
The heaving or lifting of the floor beds along a roadway to form a ridge or crown along the centerline.
Industry:Mining
The heavy, chilled-iron casting, attached to the lower end of a stamp piston, which does the actual crushing of rock in a stamp mill. It drops on a round steel block called a die.
Industry:Mining
The height in inches of a column of water or of mercury as a measure of hydrostatic pressure.
Industry:Mining
The height of a column of liquid supported, or capable of being supported, by the pressure at a point in the liquid.
